SARMALE (ROMANIAN CABBAGE ROLLS) - page 1 of 2
1 large cabbage head
1 medium onion (finely chopped)
5 garlic cloves (minced)
2 1/2 T washed rice
1 1/2 pounds ground pork
1/2 lb smoked bacon diced
1 15 oz can sauerkraut
2 C tomato juice
1 C dry white wine
1 lb diced vine tomatoes
1 slice crustless white bread
2 T fresh dill (chopped)
6 fresh dill sprigs
1 t thyme
1 t salt
1 t ground black pepper
1 t cayenne pepper
10 black peppercorns
4 bay leaves
3 T canola oil
3 T EVOO
water

cabbage leaves may be replaced by grape leaves or bell peppers
for bell peppers (any color) cut off the stems, remove seeds and ribs and stuff them
