Excerpts from Octavio & The Lotus
- The Addendum
The book was
published over the Christmas season and it did fairly well. Dougie's mom had
some pretty good connections. Royalties started coming in so Dougie and Petunia
opened savings accounts. His mom wanted them to have a book signing session as
well as present copies of the book to all of their teachers, but they decided to
wait until spring break. It didn't quite work out like that. There was a little
bookstore in town and somehow the owner got word of the book and she featured it
in her window. It only took a couple of days before word reached Mr. Andrews,
their principal, and he called the two of them into his office on a Friday
morning.
"I read your
book," he started, "it is actually very good."
"My mom helped
with editing," replied Dougie.
"Still, it is the
two of you who wrote it - very imaginative and well researched. There was
however one little problem that she may have overlooked. Somewhere in the
chapter about Doodletown, there was talk about an Appendix - I didn't see one."
"Actually, that
is my fault," replied Dougie, "I wanted to explain everything, but I didn't
quite understand it all. So I convinced Petunia to try and experience all of
those things. I was also not strong enough to accomplish some of those tasks. So
we postponed the Appendix. We will spend a part of this coming summer vacation
trying to live in the wilderness of our parents' plots. We will document it all
and hopefully, by the end of the vacation we will have a good Addendum that will
go with the book and will also be available for free to anyone who had
previously purchased our book."
