INTRODUCTION
If you are
reading this Addendum, we have to assume it is because you have enjoyed the
story of Octavio & the Lotus as well as all the other sub-stories involved. Just
as in the novel itself, we will take turns.
Petunia:
The push to get into this experiment belongs to Dougie.
Dougie:
Though, of course Petunia agreed to take part in it as well.
Petunia:
We live in a time where technology and innovation have been climbing what a lot
of experts say is a logarithmic curve. We are the heirs to thousands of years of
thought and invention. So, in order to simulate an earlier wilderness
experience, we need to ask ourselves: What is the background of the
experimenters? What period of human existence are we trying to survive in? And
for how long? We have decided on a summer week in the Craftsbury Vermont
wilderness because:
-
We live there
-
We have summer vacation.
-
Craftsbury summer weather is quite pleasant.
-
We are going to be in our own backyards, so help would be
nearby at all times.
-
For insurance, we have built a weatherproof box in which we
kept an emergency cell-phone with an emergency portable charger. One or more
of our parents would visit with us daily at which time, they would bring a
fully charged replacement phone.
